Work of Art protection

Egri Programok

Five kilometres from the castle, in a hidden corner of the suburban area lies the museum's artwork protection branch. The 3,728 m2 storage area is divided into 55 different sections and also contains the restoration workshops and photo studios.

The meticulous work of the restorers is done behind the scenes, hidden from the visitors, but it is one of the most important activities of the museum.

Their task and job is to preserve the condition of the artworks and present them in an aesthetic fashion to the delight of exhibition visitors.

Various works of art from the archeological, historical, ethnographic, fine arts, applied arts and literary history collections are cleaned, conserved and restored by professional restorers specialised in various materials, such as metal, silicate, textile and wood.
